Evacuation Sledge for downward Emergency Evacuation
This device consists of dual inner foam, lower layer firm to ride over any surfaces, carpets, concrete or any bumps like stairs and an upper layer for patient comfort. There are safety belts and a foot pocket to hold the patient in place, pulling loops at each end and a tough slippery coated bottom side. The loop at the head end is to hold back when descending stairways. The sledge requires two people with a reasonable level of strength to operate and cannot be used on larger buildings due to operator fatigue. The whole item is stored in a pouch and can hang on the wall.
This sledge is a solution to an emergency where there is no option for any other equipment. The sledge provides a down and out evacuation but is a temporary solution as it lacks the dignity and comfort that we would look for in an evacuation plan.
WHY CHOOSE THE EVACUATION SLEDGE?
An inexpensive means of a basic down and out evacuation that we would recommend in an absolute emergency. This is a temporary solution to your evacuation, we do not recommend the sledge as part of your permanent PEEPs.
Description
Evacuation Sledge for downward Emergency Evacuation
When every second counts during an emergency, having reliable evacuation equipment can make a life-saving difference. The Evacuation Sledge is specifically designed for rapid downward evacuation when no other equipment is available.
Compact, easy to deploy, and straightforward to use, this sledge is an essential emergency tool for certain situations where speed and practicality are the priority.
The Evacuation Sledge is built with a dual-layer inner foam system: a firm lower layer that enables it to glide smoothly over various surfaces such as carpets, concrete, and even stairs, and a softer upper layer that provides greater comfort for the patient during transit.
Designed to handle the bumps and challenges of stairways and rough surfaces, the sledge ensures that patients can be moved quickly and as safely as possible under difficult conditions.
To secure the individual during evacuation, the sledge features safety belts and a foot pocket, helping to hold the patient firmly in place throughout the movement. It also includes pulling loops at each end for manouverability and control.
The bottom side of the sledge is finished with a tough, slippery coating, which reduces friction and makes pulling the sledge over surfaces much easier. A critical design detail is the loop at the head end, allowing operators to stabilize and control the descent when navigating stairways.
The sledge is operated by two people and requires a reasonable level of strength and fitness. It is important to note that the Evacuation Sledge is not suitable for multi-story buildings or lengthy evacuations, as operator fatigue can set in quickly. Designed as an emergency-only solution, this device offers a basic means of evacuation when no other options are available.
When not in use, the sledge can be stored compactly in a pouch, which can easily be hung on a wall for quick access in case of emergency. This makes it an ideal addition to emergency preparedness kits in small offices, schools, healthcare facilities, and other environments where fast, temporary evacuation solutions may be needed.

Applications of the Evacuation Sledge
The Evacuation Sledge is a flexible, practical solution for a variety of emergency situations:
-
Wipe-Clean Material: The sledge is manufactured with easy-to-clean surfaces, making it hygienic and reusable after an evacuation or training exercise.
-
Two-Person Operation: Designed for efficient team use, the sledge requires two operators working together to ensure safe and controlled descent.
-
Head Support Cushion: A built-in cushion provides head and neck support to help protect the individual during movement down stairs or across uneven surfaces.
-
Downward Evacuation: Specifically intended for moving individuals downstairs quickly during an emergency evacuation when lifts and elevators cannot be used.
The Evacuation Sledge is best deployed in smaller buildings, single or double-story premises, or in situations where evacuation lifts, stair climbers, or tracked chairs are unavailable.
