SoS had two situations where they needed to be able to evacuate wheelchair users, both below ground level. They also needed the equipment to be uniform from a staff training point of view.
What we found
In one of SOS car parks 2 levels below street level they needed to be able to evacuate wheelchair users in their wheelchairs. They also had a drop in centre that they needed to evacuate a wheelchair users who could transfer.
Car Park used a Stair Mate SAS stairclimber so the security staff could evacuate a person in their standard wheelchair in the event of fire. At the drop in centre, they used a Power Trac SC3, as it could transport w wheelchair users up one level on very tight stairs with a turn in the event of fire. Both units work in the same way therefore once someone was trained on one model they were trained on both.
